OK, folks, here it is August 27th, school is in for Broward and Miami-Dade counties. And, drum roll please……the 95expressNot lanes are freaking parking lots.
Today, about 5:45 PM, I was NOT in the 95ExpressNot lanes, and I was zipping passed all the poor saps paying big bucks to drive in the Lexus lanes. The sad part is I was doing 10 freaking miles an hour.!!! Yes, 10.!
Before the 95expressNot lanes, I could easily do 30 or 40, along with everyone else. But now, 10 miles per hour. But even at that, I was literally zooming passed everyone on the other side of the cones. The poor people in the express lanes were stopped dead. Occasionally they would speed up to 3 MPH, but that wasn’t even close to my blazing 10 MPH.
Please notice the red brake lights fully lit.
This again demostrates the sheer stupidity, incompetence and greed that our government possess. Basically, they got cash from Washington to do something, and they decided to do what would personally benefit them. Not the city. Not the county. Not the drivers. Not the taxpayers. Them. Just like any government.
If this keeps up, I am going to have to explore alternative ways to drive home. At 10 MPH, plus all the times I am standing still in traffic, the pollution I am putting out and the gas I am wasting is just not good for the environment or my wallet.
I just hope whatever idiot scumbag who planned this disaster one day has to ride through his nightmare.
Freaking ass weasels.
Peace out people.

They’re still not collecting tolls for those lanes, are they?
They are not paying yet. Other than that, it’s true. I get less traffic a little later (about 6:30 pm) so I go faster, but the people in the Lexus lanes are way slower than me.
This was actually my idea. I mentioned it in a Herald comment section a few years ago, and again over on Transit Miami. I didn’t think anyone would ever do it.
It’s poorly implemented; I don’t agree with the toll, and they should have spent more time to develop the transitions on and off the express lanes. But the idea and general placement are both sound.
BTW, you fail to mention that traffic was slow because of an accident on the ramp to the Palmetto. A placement that directly affects BOTH sets of lanes, and typically caused the exact same type of slow down before the express lanes were installed. I’ve made that drive as often as you. I know that it sucked before, too.
The exit is a big part of the problem. Much of the backup is caused by the line created by people leaving the express lane and merging into the 826/Turnpike offramp.
Until they a) charge the toll and b) fix that, it’s going to be trouble.
Of course the 2 lane express area is going to be slower than the 3-4 lane free area when there are no tolls.
Hey SCG : your getting heckled on this one. I don’t see what you have to be cranky about. Traffic ALWAYS sucked in Miami in Rush Hour. What are you cranky about?
You really think congestion based pricing was going to be a miraculous cure-all where the situation on i-95 would drastically improve? Your lucky you don’t live in California where you have the black smog cloud hanging over your head all the time.
Anyone who thought this would remedy our traffic situation is a effing moron. Using this space to install a highspeed train wouldve been a great idea…
1) There is a significant difference between an average speed of 30 to 40 MPH and 10.
2) How much money was wasted on this project to enable us to go slower? How many idiot bureaucrats have jobs managing this when government is cutting funding to schools and parks???
3) In my book, toll are the PROBLEM! They should be illegal. You spend millions of dollars constructing a super highway with one purpose – to move cars from one point to another swiftly. Then you make everyone stop and pay a toll???? Insanity.
4) I-95 is a federal highway. How can the local community start conducting highway robbery bu collecting tolls?????
5) Stop building highways. Stop adding lanes. Put every constructing dollar into mass transportation!!! Monorails, trains, busses, tolley cars, ANYTHING but more roads!!!!!
California is the example of how NOT to do things, so let’s not even go there.
The 95ExpressNOT is only designed to benefit politicians and bureaucrats.
Did the citizens get to vote on this? Hell no!!!!
One day the bureaucrats and government nutjobs will go just a bit too far, and even the normally numb and dumb citizens of America will have had enough, and the 2nd revolution will take place.
Government OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people.

Ahh…this is the reason I-95 and all it’s misery are never in my plans. Back roads, honey…take the back roads. You may think it’s slower, but you’d probably be going faster that the blistering 10 mph on the big eye.
When they raised the turnpkie tolls so that my daily commute would cost me $3, I stopped taking it and starting using Useless1. And you know what? It takes me the same amount of time to get home, despite all the traffic lights! And it’s free!
So, I think it’s time for you to explore alternative routes. Try this: Challenge yourself to take a different way home each day next week. What the hell…
Great suggestion SwampAngel!
